the lodge

Completed in October 2022, the Looking Glass Lodge reflects the peaceful ambience of its natural surroundings, elevated next to a majestic Giant Redwood tree. The Lodge offers year round comfort within its leafy green setting, with wide open doors in the summer and the cosiness of our beautiful floating log burner during the colder months.

The space is cosy and thoughtfully designed with the full height electrochromic windows providing a unique way of creating a space where you can see out, but Nature can't see in. You can enjoy the Lodge come rain or shine with its minimalist open plan dining and sitting area with glorious views. The well-equipped kitchen features everything you need for an enjoyable stay, and a few supplies to get you going. The large deck area allows you to relax and dine under the sun or stars. whilst the luxury stone bath promises indulgent soaks with lush views of the private woodland. In the comfortable bedroom you’ll be lulled to sleep by the sound of the woodland wildlife and the wind through the trees.

This is a perfect spot for a quiet retreat and a great base for exploring the quaint villages and vibrant seaside towns on our doorstep. You can hideaway or venture out – the choice is yours…

OUR STORY

We are Rik and Lindsey, and together with our family we live in a converted coach house on the outskirts of the small village of Fairlight. We are lucky enough to live in a peaceful spot on the edge of Mallydams Wood Nature Reserve, which Rik's parents established for the RSPCA in the 1960s.

In 2018 we started to think how wonderful it would be if we could share this beautiful location. We had no idea about building a lodge or the challenges we’d face along the way, but we have poured our heart and soul into this place, and we hope our guests feel that when they visit. It has been a long journey of planning, building and paperwork and finally our dream is coming to fruition.

Biophilic principles were of utmost importance to us when designing the lodge. Through this, our intention has been to create a closer connection to nature through the way the lodge has been built, using natural resources to create a sense of harmony between the architecture and the natural world. We have worked hard to match luxury with sustainable, green credentials, and new technology. The lodge has been sensitively built by local craftsmen, and inside has a warm and welcoming feel with all the home comforts you could need.

We consider ourselves extremely lucky to live where we do and are looking forward to being able to share it.
