Take in the panoramic coastal views on the nearby coastal walks within Hastings Country Park, just a 5-minute stroll from the Lodge. Stroll along the much admired Pett-Level beach, with its fossilised forest and beautiful sandstone cliffs, just a 5 minute drive away. Rye Harbour Nature reserve offers one of the most important wetland habitats in England – take a break at its Discovery Centre.
CULTURE AND HISTORY
Hastings Old Town is not to be missed, boasting the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe, funicular railways, picturesque fish-smoking huts and fabulous bars and restaurants. Walk along the seafront, past the award-winning pier to arty St Leonards on Sea, and stumble across an original Banksy in its intended habitat. Spend the day walking the cobbled streets in the ancient Cinque Ports town of Rye. Step back in time and visit the English Heritage site at Battle Abbey, in the market town of Battle. Dungeness, Romney Marsh and Bedgebury Pinetum are also a short distance away.
